Today was my introduction to my new physical therapist at Henry Mayo Fitness & Health. Wow! TJ was professional and thorough, and led me through a full hour and more of intense evaluation. With their state of the art facility and tools, TJ was able to pinpoint areas that needed help in my back and neck and get me ready to be as strong as possible for my Kilimanjaro climb.
As balance is very important not just for hiking and climbing but for everyday symmetry, TJ filmed me with sophisticated software as he led me through a variety of exercises; afterwards, he showed me the playback to see exactly where I was weak or needed some improvement. I have one leg that is 1/4 inch longer than the other – I never told him that but he figured it out in short order. Just in the time that I was there, TJ gave me some exercises to do that alleviated pain for me in my back almost immediately. I can see that with his help, I will transition from therapy to the gym and coordinate both to make me stronger and ready to achieve my physical fitness goals!
What a great start to my training and I’m looking forward to the start of a new week as I meet my new trainer in the gym!
